Become like water: malleable, resilient, and receptive.

The name of my consultancy is inspired by my studies of Ibn 'Arabi, where I came across the concept of 'Hyle', which became the foundation of my framework and values.  In its basic meaning, the term refers to prime matter—the fundamental substance that makes up everything and has the potential to take on any form. To become 'Hyle' is to become like water: malleable, resilient, and receptive.

It is an idea that embodies infinite possibility and encourages self-responsibility, freedom, openness, flexibility, awareness, and the ability to let go. It presents and promotes an optimistic view of life for my clients; there is always hope for change.  With the right resources and comportment, we can experience the transformative impact of conscious living: a content, more meaningful, wholesome existence.

Approach & Method

Our approach is intuitive, transpersonal, and psycho-somatic. It integrates Therapeutic PracticesExistential Coaching, and Spiritual Care, addressing the three main aspects of our being: body, mind, and spirit. We cultivate grounded spiritual awareness by processing emotions, developing psycho-spiritual skills, fostering a constructive mindset, and embracing a metaphysical worldview. When we align our thoughts and actions with our spiritual core, we can reclaim a healthy sense of self that enables us to navigate our inner and outer landscapes with peaceful stillness, loving trust, and intuitive wisdom.

Therapeutic Practices combine practical life coaching and therapeutic skills from various modalities (DBT, ACT, CBT, and IPT) and trauma-informed psychotherapy. They help clients better understand their wounds, manage their emotions, and take charge of their behaviour.

Existential Coaching focuses on skill development through a broader philosophical lens, whereby clients can build a constructive framework to navigate their lives with meaning and purpose. We encourage clients to explore their identity, emphasizing agency, freedom, and responsibility.

Spiritual Care integrates knowledge and experiences to live more authentically. It engages clients in self-reflection and spiritual practices, helping them confront trauma related to spirituality while encouraging them to rewrite their narratives and reconnect with their true essence.

Background & Training

I have a diverse academic background and professional training, with an MSc in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh (2008), an MA in Philosophy and Critical Theory from Middlesex University (2010), and a PhD in Arab and Islamic Studies from the University of Exeter (2018) with a thesis entitled ‘Being, Reification and Ritual: The Esoteric Paradigm of Ibn ‘Arabī’. My dissertation gave me a strong foundation in the philosophy of religion, the study of mysticism, selfhood, and consciousness.

Parallel to my academic studies, I spent years studying yoga and traveling, eventually certifying as a Hatha Yoga Instructor at the Sivananda Yoga Centre in London (2013) and a Reiki practitioner at the Reiki London Academy (2019). In 2020, I ventured into the world of coaching, earning a certificate as a life skills coach from the ICF-accredited Rhodes Wellness College in Vancouver and established Hyle. I continued deepening my professional experience, and since then, I gained a diploma in Psychological Therapies from the Association of Psychological Therapies (APT) in the UK while completing the one-year trauma-informed Compassionate Inquiry Training designed by Gabor Maté and Sat Dharam (2024). I am currently pursuing another APT Diploma in Child & Adolescent Mental Health (2025) and remain committed to the pursuit of (self-) knowledge.

What inspires my work?

What drives me is the heartfelt joy, connection, insight, and sense of purpose that arise from helping others and offering the kind of support I longed for. We all need someone to hold space for us when we are falling apart, to encourage us to face our pain, and to help us stay brave during tumultuous times of transformation. The path of self-discovery and healing is less daunting and arduous when we share it with a companion.

Finding a suitable practitioner to work with can be challenging. Someone who can provide a safe environment, supporting us through difficult emotions while respectfully encouraging us to examine our beliefs about our identity, faith, and worldview. We need someone who understands how complex the process is when we are ridden with shame and guilt, feel like we've fallen off the wagon, and want to get back on but don't know how to or where to start.

I understand the struggles of working with practitioners who are unfamiliar or prejudiced towards my spiritual standpoint. I also grappled with conventional mainstream narratives and spiritual bypassing when seeking counsel from religious mentors. In my experience, wholesome support that addresses all aspects of our being often comes in a fragmented form, which can be very disheartening.

The balance between self-reflection, emotional processing, and cultivating a healthy, confident self within a God-conscious framework is tricky but pivotal. In the hope of providing the wholesome assistance I once desperately sought from someone who understands and values your background, I offer my integrated therapeutic practices, existential coaching, and spiritual care services.
